FEATURED PROJECT

Escuela Verde

Environmentally Focused Charter School

Project value: $1.1 million
Project completion: 2015

Project highlights: IFF is a community development financial institution that exclusively serves nonprofits in low-income communities in the Midwest, securing financing and providing comprehensive real estate consulting services. Rivet has been retained by IFF on a number of charter school projects, including Escuela Verde, a high school committed to student-led learning, sustainability and restorative justice. The school, which is operated by the TransCenter for Youth, moved from its former location to a new, 10,800-square-foot building in Milwaukee’s Layton Boulevard West neighborhood. Students had a say in the school’s design, which is open concept, twice as large as the old school facility and offers outdoor green space and sustainable features in keeping with the school’s mission.

Client’s perspective

“I had the pleasure of working with Monique as our owner rep for a large construction project for one of our schools, Escuela Verde. As a small school with big dreams, we were grateful that Monique shared our values of sustainability and justice and helped make our project work even in a very tight budget. Like most construction projects, we ran into more than our fair share of hiccups, and having Monique at our side to calmly explore options made all the difference. I am so happy with the guidance and advocacy Monique provided and cannot recommend her more!”
